PLANTING & GROWING INFORMATION
Plant Mascara Grape Ice bulbs in the fall, ideally between September and November, to allow roots to establish before winter. Choose a location with full sun to partial shade; a bit of afternoon shade can help prolong the bloom period. These bulbs prefer well-drained, humus-rich soil and will perform best in areas that remain moderately moist during their growing season. Plant each bulb 3 to 5 centimeters (approximately 1 to 2 inches) deep and space them about 3 to 4 inches apart—allowing for roughly 15 to 20 bulbs per square foot when mass planting.
In spring, slender green foliage emerges, followed by fragrant flower spikes that bloom in mid-spring, providing weeks of visual interest. These hardy perennials are ideal for naturalizing and will spread over time when left undisturbed, making them perfect for borders, rock gardens, woodland edges, and containers. They are also resistant to deer and rodents, and their early-season blooms attract beneficial pollinators. After flowering, allow the foliage to die back naturally to nourish the bulbs for the next year. For continued vigor, clumps can be divided every few years.
