Join us July 24th at 10:00 am for a discussion about Bees with Colin Doherty of Treespoke.

Bees are a very important part of our ecology system

One out of every three mouthfuls of our food depends on pollinators such as bees. Crops that depend on pollination are five times more valuable than those that do not.

About Colin Doherty

Beekeeper // Founder of Treespoke
A Boston Firefighter by trade, Colin has always been an avid gardener and enthusiastic
naturalist. He and his wife attended bee school through the Plymouth County Beekeepers
Association back in 2016 and immediately fell in love with the hobby. Colin’s passion for caring
for the pollinators and educating others about the benefits quickly spread to friends and family
and in 2020, he founded Treespoke.
Fast forward to 7 years later, he is now caring for over 70 hives across Massachusetts and
Rhode Island, including the two new hives here at Kennedy’s Country Gardens. He actively
shares his knowledge and passion with local organizations including the Cohasset Education
Foundation, the Cohasset Garden Club and Holly Hill Farm. His services include the custom
crafting of the hives with viewing windows, the hive stands, the year-long care and keeping of
the bees, and the harvesting and jarring of your honey.

DID YOU KNOW? Nearly half of all crops in Massachusetts rely on pollination by honey bees, bumble bees or solitary native bees in order to produce fruit. And Massachusetts is home to more than 4,000 beekeepers, the vast majority of whom maintain fewer than five hives. An additional 40,000 hives (belonging to commercial beekeepers) travel through Massachusetts each year to provide pollination services for large-scale animal-pollinated crops like apples and cranberries. ~UMass Amherst
