Features & Attributes

Air plants are unique, soil-free houseplants known for their striking, spiky foliage and ability to absorb moisture and nutrients through their leaves. Their sculptural appearance and versatility make them excellent choices for terrariums, wall displays, or decorative arrangements.

These epiphytic evergreens naturally grow attached to trees and rocks, making them a fascinating addition to any indoor space. Their fine, silvery-green leaves create texture and visual interest, and some varieties even produce vibrant, tubular flowers.

Planting & Growing

Unlike traditional houseplants, air plants don’t require soil and can thrive when placed in a well-ventilated space. They are slow growers and can live for several years with proper care.

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. A spot near a south- or east-facing window is ideal. Avoid direct sun, which can dry them out too quickly.
  • Watering: Soak in room-temperature water for 20–30 minutes once a week, then shake off excess moisture. In drier environments, misting between soaks helps maintain hydration.
  • Air Circulation: Proper airflow is essential—avoid keeping them in enclosed containers without ventilation.
  • Humidity: Thrives in moderate to high humidity, making them great choices for bathrooms and kitchens.
  • Temperature: Keep between 50–90°F and protect from frost or extreme heat.
  • Feeding: A diluted bromeliad fertilizer once a month during the growing season can encourage healthy growth and flowering.

Air plants are low-maintenance, adaptable, and perfect for creative displays. Since they don’t require pots, they can be placed in glass terrariums, mounted on driftwood, or nestled into decorative bowls.
